I'm Elizabeth Allen
Welcome to my Kitchen!
Welcome to our community of amazing bread lovers! My name is Elizabeth Allen. I founded The Sourdough Yogi as the culmination of the many roads that have led me here. I'm so excited to be here with you and to learn about all of you as we break bread together! I have always had a love for baking and am passionate about creating delicious and nutritious foods in my kitchen. I find so much enjoyment in healthy eating. It's a tremendous part of my love language to provide nourishing meals for my amazing husband, Sean and my daughters, Isabella & Grace. Now I'm excited to expand my horizons and pour the same love and wholesome goodness into the baked goods available to all of you.
I believe most of us experience some type of healing journey throughout our life. Mine began when I was diagnosed with an Autoimmune Disease in 2009. I wanted to find an alternative way to get better & feel better without surgery and a lifetime of medication. I was told that I needed to cut out certain foods, including gluten, so I started making recipes made with whole foods from scratch. I am elated to share that I was able to get my Autoimmune Disease to go into remission with my healthy way of eating, but I couldn't figure out how I was ever going to bake again. I could no longer safely utilize all the unhealthy ingredients that most baked foods called for. My search for healthy baked goods led me to my love for sourdough bread. Having recently completed my 200 hour RYT certification in Yoga and becoming a Reiki Practitioner after completing Reiki II, I am experienced in the many benefits of meditation and natural healing, but as I developed into a bread maker, I quickly realized that bread making is equally meditative for me. It is my passion, meditation, healing and an expression of my love and gratitude.
After spending the last 12yrs as a care taker of so many beloved clients with Dementia, Alzheimer's and other illnesses, I am now so excited to pour that same love into my next chapter as a Sourdough baker and Yoga teacher. I'm grateful to meet so many new friends here and I hope you enjoy my sourdough creations as much as I enjoy making them for you!

A Sourdough Bread Lovers' Paradise
I welcome you to the place where I gather my ideas and share my signature creations. I make fresh sourdough bread from a sourdough starter that I created in my home. What makes my bread different? My sourdough starter is made using organic hard white wheat berries that I mill in my home so you can have the freshest and most natural sourdough products.

All of the bread can be frozen for several months and thawed to enjoy when you are ready. You can store the bread in a zip lock bag or saran wrap, but I prefer to keep mine in the bag that they are in when you buy them. I do not use any preservatives, but they will hold their freshness on the counter in the original bag for up to a week or more and you can also store them in the fridge. All of the bread loaves and dinner rolls can be reheated in the oven at 350 degrees until they are just warmed or hot and crunchy on the outside, whichever you prefer. If you are going to reheat a loaf for 20 minutes or more, put the bread on a pan or a piece of foil after about 20 minutes so the bottom doesn't get too dark. This is great for bread that has been thawed from the freezer or to freshen up your bread that has been stored in you fridge or on the counter for several days. I run water over my bread for a couple of seconds before I put it in the oven if I want that extra crunchy outside. The cinnamon rolls taste delicious warmed in the microwave for about 20 seconds.
